Beyond Translation: Transcultural Facilitation using Aromatherapy

Transcultural facilitation goes beyond linguistic translation. It involves creating opportunities for people from different cultural backgrounds to communicate, collaborate and share experiences.

Through my work with international corporate teams, I have developed an approach that uses aromatic materials as a common sensory language, encouraging dialogue, creativity and mutual understanding.

A Shared Olfactory Experience

Fragrances evoke memories, emotions and personal associations. When people explore the same aromatic materials, they discover both common ground and individual differences.

My workshops draw on essences from different geographical regions, creating an aromatic landscape that reflects the diversity of the participants.

Each person contributes their own perceptions, while the group gradually develops a shared experience. Sometimes this leads to the creation of a collective fragrance, accompanied by spontaneous storytelling, humour or creative presentations.

The aim is not to eliminate cultural differences, but to make them part of a meaningful exchange.

Experience with International Teams

My approach has evolved through collaborations with organisations including Arkopharma, during training events across Italy in 2016, and Logotel, including its international Kickoff in 2024.

These experiences have shown me the importance of adapting sensory activities to different groups, professional environments and ways of communicating.

Aromatic materials become a starting point for connection: a way to explore individual perceptions while creating something together.
