Fragrance as an Expression of Place
Every place has its own sensory identity, shaped by its vegetation, landscape, human activities and the memories of the people who live there.
As a botanical perfumer, I have developed original fragrances for cosmetic projects and hospitality settings, drawing inspiration from the characteristics of their locations and the stories behind them.
Each composition grows through botanical research, dialogue with the client and an olfactory interpretation of place.
Positano — La Selva Cosmetici
On the Amalfi Coast, I collaborated with Martha Rubino, founder of La Selva Cosmetici, to develop botanical fragrances inspired by the local landscape.
The project was rooted in a three-hectare property featuring olive trees, citrus groves and Mediterranean aromatic vegetation.
The first fragrance was created to express the identity of the place. A second composition, developed some years later, drew inspiration from a local story.
The Trieste Karst — The Officinal
For The Officinal, a cosmetic project based in the Trieste Karst, I created a botanical fragrance intended for use across the product line.
The collaboration involved Stefania, a pharmacist, and the family behind the project, whose approach brought together sustainability and permaculture.
The fragrance was conceived as a unifying element of the cosmetic line’s sensory identity.
Aurisina — The Scent of Juna
In Aurisina, on the Trieste Karst, I developed a bespoke aromatic composition for Juna, a hospitality property.
The project originated from the owners’ wish to express the character and history of the place through scent.
The composition included sweet orange, bergamot and Lebanese cedarwood, creating an aromatic identity designed to complement the setting.
From Research to Composition
Each project takes shape through a process that may include:
- Exploring the local landscape, vegetation and botanical traditions.
- Understanding the vision and intentions of the people behind the project.
- Selecting natural botanical aromatic materials.
- Creating a fragrance suited to the project’s identity and intended application.
- Collaborating with technical specialists when required for product development.
The result is an original fragrance created for a specific setting, bringing together the qualities of botanical materials and the identity of the project.
These collaborations reflect my professional work in botanical perfumery and bespoke fragrance composition for businesses and place-based initiatives.
