L’Altracittà — A Longstanding Collaboration in Rome

One of the longest-standing collaborations in my professional journey has been with Libreria L’Altracittà in Rome. For years, we organised meetings, readings, sensory literary gatherings and online talks together, within the kind of space that an independent bookshop knows how to create: a place where people come for books and stay for conversation.

It was there that I came to understand something that remains central to my work today. A fragrance and a book do the same thing: they open up a world, and each person enters it carrying their own story.

When we smell an aromatic essence after reading a passage, or begin writing after breathing in a fragrance, something changes in the words. They become more authentic, less controlled. Memories and images emerge that no one expected to find.

These gatherings also gave rise to Taccuino dell’Anima (Notebook of the Soul), a creative writing journey combined with sensory exploration. They also helped refine the approach I still use today in botanical perfumery private events.

An independent bookshop is one of those places that keep the cultural fabric of a city alive. I am grateful to L’Altracittà for believing in this work, and for all the people I had the opportunity to meet through our gatherings.
