Botanical Perfumery and Natural Product Making: A Workshop in Como

Olfactory experiences archive — Como, Italy, May 2015

In May 2015, I held a practical workshop at Il Chiostrino in Como, dedicated to natural product making and the direct exploration of botanical aromatic materials.

The workshop offered an opportunity to discover essential oils and botanical preparations through hands-on experience: becoming familiar with raw materials, exploring their fragrances and learning to work with them thoughtfully.

Learning Through Making

Making natural aromatic preparations is a particular form of knowledge. It requires attention to ingredients, proportions, the quality of raw materials and the gestures involved in transforming them.

Throughout my work, this technical dimension has always been closely connected to sensory experience.

Smelling an essential oil also means paying attention to what it evokes: a memory, a bodily sensation, an emotion or a particular quality of awareness.

This is where botanical perfumery meets emotional aromatherapy — in the personal relationship we develop with aromatic materials.

An Experience That Continues

The Como workshop is part of a professional journey shaped by practical experimentation, encounters and direct experience with aromatic plants.

Today, this background continues to inform my bespoke olfactory workshops and private events in Italy and internationally.

Each experience can bring together natural aromatic materials, botanical perfume composition and hands-on preparation activities, according to the setting and the people involved.
