scents for a fresh summer

[Profumi per una fresca estate – versione italiana qui]

This year the high temperatures are making themselves felt, and our essential oils can lend us a hand. Let us remember that some of them refresh, and others, with their lightness, can give us a feeling of relief.

lavadula angustifolia

An easy way to use them is to create sprays, with 95% food alcohol or 40% vodka, and combine the essential oils.

Let’s take a look at a simple, soothing and fresh recipe (I called it ‘of the three mints’):

in 30 ml of vodka, add 10 drops of Peppermint (preferably from Pancalieri);

5 drops of Field Mint (Mentha arvensis);

2 drops of Spearmint.

In this way we obtain a refreshing spray, in which the notes of the three mints add up and alternate, creating an intriguing fragrance using only one type of plant (plants of the same genus but of a different species).

For those seeking cheerful relaxation, on the other hand, one could use, again in 30 ml of vodka

5 drops of essential oil of Lavandula angustifolia

5 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil

3 drops of Green Mandarin essential oil

creating a relaxing synergy, which gives emotional wellbeing and can be useful when our moods experience ups and downs (be careful not to spray on the skin directly if you expose yourself to the sun).

In the case of tired legs due to the heat, remember that you can add in some basic cream:

3 drops of Cypress, to help the vaso-lymphatic circulation;

3 drops of Peppermint, for a fresh and invigorating effect.

Apply to the legs, with movements from the foot towards the hips. If we have the opportunity, it is also important to give the legs a fresh shower before application (or even afterwards, if we need to remove excess cream or carrier oil).
